Council Tax:

Council tax is required to be paid by all tenants who rent in England. The more value the property is, the higher the council tax would be. Normally, a one-bed apartment would be around 120 pounds. Some landlords would like to include council tax.

Students:

Students can apply for student exemption to avoid council tax.

(1)  Log in to the Council tax website. (https://www.gov.uk/pay-council-tax). Search on your property’s postcode and get access to your local council.

(2) Find the student exemption page, and type in account reference (it is on the bill, if your bill has not come yet, you can apply later)

(3) Put the information on the application, such as the move-in date and course name. Don’t forget to upload your university student confirmation letter, which can be accessed on student records.

(4) After submitting successfully, your local council would contact you for the following instructions within ten days.

Attention: if you move in earlier than the course date, then you have to pay the extra date tax.

Professionals:

Professionals can apply for a single person discount. (If you are the only adult resident in your home, you are eligible for a 25% discount on your council tax. )
